Children are grouped into classes according to age:
Three classes of 18 three year old students, with a 9-1 child to teacher ratio, meet on Tuesday and Thursday (T-TH) from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.
Three classes of 18 four year old students, with a 9-1 child to teacher ratio, meet on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday (M-W-F) from 9:00 a.m. to 12 noon.
One Pre-Kindergarten class of 18 older four year old students, with a 9-1 child to teacher ratio, meets Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Note: All children in this class must be old enough to enter kindergarten however, utilizing another year of preschool.
Each morning the children spend time exploring indoor and outdoor environments that promote creativity, activity, and relaxation. Equipment and materials that foster confidence, development of large and small muscle skills and cognitive skills are provided daily. Through these activities the children are given opportunities to enrich their social skills and independence.
Extended Day Program:
A "Lunch Bunch" program, with limited enrollment, is available Monday through Friday until 2:30 p.m. Children gather together for lunch and fun in a multi-purpose room. Each child brings a lunch from home and enjoys a social time while eating. A brief resting time follows lunch with books, music and an occasional video available. The program includes open ended activities to encourage imagination as well as uninterrupted opportunities to develop a variety of play scenarios in order to build strong social skills and self confidence.
Movement Education Program:
All of the M-W-F children and Pre-Kindergarten program participate in a weekly physical education program. Each classroom spends 30 minutes with two specially trained teachers in preschool motor development and their classroom teachers for large motor development. Basic warm-up exercises, ball skills, rhythm and balance as well as tumbling skills are some of the activities enjoyed. The fee for this program is incorporated into the monthly tuition.
Chapel:
Every child enrolled in St. George's Preschool attends a brief Chapel program once a week, where children learn about how special they are to God and how we love one another. Fun stories, songs and prayers are used. Parents are always welcome to attend. A special Christmas Chapel is held the last day before our holiday break where parents attend and then enjoy a special treat in the classrooms with their children.
Music Program:
A music program is included in the monthly tuition. The children learn about music through songs, stories and the use of a variety of props. This program enhances what the teachers do on a daily basis in the classroom.
Summer Program:
A one month summer program is held for children currently enrolled in the school with many fun activities including dramatic play, cooking, science and water play.
Clothing:
In order for children to feel comfortable participating in all the school activities involving sand, water, mud, paint, glue, movement education, and using the bathroom, play clothes with simple snaps, zippers and elastic is essential. Keeping clean is not a priority at St. George's Preschool- involvement is. We ask that children come in clothes that are suitable their work; play and mess.
Safety is a major priority. All clothing and footwear should be safe for running, riding, and climbing activities.
